I had an incidental 9mm adrenal lesion discovered by CT scan for fever of unknown origin (FUO). Followed up with MRI last Wednesday. When can I expect a diagnosis? Waiting for doctor to call....

Typically, when I order an MRI scan, I obtain the outcomes by the very next day. HOWEVER, there can be other reasons that delay this information/results getting to the patient. Because of the load of lab results, xrays, CTscans and MRIs that the bulk doctors/providers will have to sift via each day, they may have to take a couple of days to review the findings. Occasionally, I've had to review algorithms of care plans to be ready to discuss with the patient, as well as review all possible questions the patient will likely ask regarding the results. There's nothing worse than stumbling your way via explanation of outcomes with the patient! ;)

Sounds like you caught an incidental adrenal adenoma on the CT scan. An MRI is always the second line diagnostic. When confirmed as an adenoma, then it's just simply watched and serial CT scans are ordered to watch its growth rate and size. Very few of these ever have to be biopsied or excised.

Hope this helps to explain things better.

Call your doctor and tell him/her that you want to know the results. My husband had a tumor on an adrenal gland. It took 2 days for the outcomes to come in and he had an appointment that day. Just some info for you- he had a regimen called cryoblation to kill the tumor. This also kills the adrenal gland and if you have it done you will have to be in the intensive care unit overnight to monitor your blood pressure after it's done. Any other surgical regimen can cause the cancer to spread. Cryoblation kills it by freezing it. Heat makes cells spread whereas freezing kills them. If you do have to have surgery and you would happen to have this regimen you will need to keep your sodium consumption high enough. If you would like more information you may email me if you wish. My husband lost his battle with cancer 3 years after having this regimen because he already had a metasticized tumor elsewhere in his body. He originally had stage 4 non minute cell lung cancer.
