My son had a few of these on his back that we sucessfully treated over the course of various months. Now I have had one on my belly for a few months. Until last week it was not irritated but it began to swell and I messed with it. Now I am afraid I have a bacterial infection because it has a monstrous red circle around it. But as I recall, my son's got worse before they got better.

Do you have any conciousness about this pest and do you think I should wait it out or make an appointment?

Molluscum will go away by itself over time. However, this can take up to 6 months. The best thing to do is go to your doctor and have him apply liquid nitrogen to the bump. This is completely painless and very effective and stops it from spreading.

Molluscum is very contagious and if you don't treat it asap it will spread and then you'll have a bunch of them. This usually happens after you pop or scratch one.

If you're uninsured and you want to save the $ of a doctor visit there is a product you could buy at the store. It's called Compound W Freeze Off. It's basically the same thing that doctors use. But I will caution you, if you use it do not hold the applicator on your mollusum bump for any longer than 2 seconds or you risk scarring. Mollusum is many weaker than the other warts the product is designed for, so the directions tell you 10-20 seconds but DO NOT use it for more than 2 seconds on your bumps.

I've found this product very effective and safe.
