I was diagnosed as having a gene mutation called PAI 1 a few months ago. The doctor has prescribed Lovenox during this pregnancy. I haven't met with her yet but she called in the prescription so that I can meet with a nurse to obtain instructions on how to inject myself.

Is this something I inject in my belly fat? Did your insurance cover it? (mine is covering all but $80...that's still costly for my family) Does it obtain easier throughout the pregnancy? Are there dietary restrictions????

I'll do whatever I have to do to bring this baby/babies to full term (my last miscarriage turned out to be twins)...just curious about the details.

I can't aid you with anything except I know it's injected sub q, into the belly fat. Each insurance would be different according to the type of coverage. Didn't read anything about dietary restrictions, just know that you can't take aspirin or anything else that will thin the blood with it.

I have injected Lovinox a lot times into my husband. it was not for pregnancy. He had heart attacks and operations and I did it for I believe 4-6wks. It is a blood thinner. I don't know why they woudn't use an oral blood thinner unless they need an immediate reaction. I did inject it in his belly, but that seems odd to do with a baby in there. the needle is wonderful size and you end up all bruised because you bleed under the skin. I did the injection sites in a clock pattern,so I didn't hit the same place twice.Make certainly you obtain a visiting nurse to do it at the start and to teach you how to do it so you would be comfortable with it. I am an RN and did not need anybody showing me,but I have taught a lot people to do it. Our insurance company paid for some of it,but I can't bear in mind how much. Good Luck.
