I need some a food list that is wonderful carb food. I know the obvious, like sweets and such things like poatato chips, but I dont know what I can eat for a snack that has low carbs. Also, what is the maximum amount of carb consumption a day for the general person? I know that meat is considered a "free" carb too!!!! Thanks in advanced for the help!

Check out mypyramid.gov they will have a wonderful list and you could figure out what your everyday intakes should be around for your height and weight and such. However as for "free" foods, the bulk veggies are free however carrots do have a few amount of carbs. And cheese together with meat are free, so you could eat as much of that as you want. Fruit is also a wonderful food to have. However there really is no such thing as a wonderful or bad food. thats just something the marketers came up with to aid sell more food items

In general, whole-wheat selections are better than not - whole-wheat bread, whole-wheat spaghetti, for example - but check the label to be sure. The more fiber, the easier it's for the carbs on a diabetic.
As for wonderful low-carb snacks, protein is better (peanut butter, though it's many of fat; cheese; yogurt, etc.), or you could look at an exchange list for "free" or "nearly free" foods, or you could go with newer research that suggests alternatives to exchange diets (such as glycemic values). Here's a couple of wonderful websites: http://www.diabetes.org/nutrition-and-recipes/nutrition/overview.jsp http://www.webmd.com/content/pages/9/3068_9408.htm http://www.dlife.com/dLife/do/ShowContent/diet/diabetes_diet.html http://www.bhg.com/bhg/category.jsp?categoryid=/templatedata/bhg/category/data/DiabeticRecipes.xml&ordersrc=yahoo2diabetic_cgy&cobrandId=ww5&s_kwcid=TC-2498-14307984022-S-1620276022 Good luck! Nuts to you!
I like 'em roasted with salt and spices, but the Mrs (see baby picture with JustMe above) prefers them to be roasted with a bit of Splenda (maybe some cinnamon). Be careful, though, because nut carbohydrate content is not the same among dissimilar types of nuts. Also, while it's technically not "low carb", I found that popcorn doesn't spike my blood sugar. |

Whole grains: oatmeal, rice, whole wheat, potato, beans, whole grain bread, corn, winter squash, peas, pumpkin. Meat is wonderful for controlling carbs and diabetes but it's also wonderful for running your cholesterol up to the ceiling if you think you could eat as much as you want. Nuts are wonderful but only in moderation. I do 150 carbs per day divided equally in 3 meals spaced at least 4 hours apart.

The maximun amoutn permitted is difficult to say, depends on if your in a clear cut eating plan, if your trying to loose weight or just maintaining and depends on your body. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that, depending on what stage you're in-trying to loose weight or maintain, on a low carb technique of life will be somewher between 20-70 grams a day-thats roughly though b/c it really depends on a few factors. Snacks I like that are quick and easy-string cheese, nuts, deli meat with your favorite cheese, beef jerky or something like a beef stick, a smoothie ready low carb, pork rines-thats all I can think of off the top of my head-hope that helps a little.
