To commence with yes! Read the instructions - it clearly states this!
It is average to feel worse before you feel better but you will obtain there. If you're feeling very low though, go back to your GP and discuss an alternative. *Edit - I dont appreciate being called a tw*t by lapland fan - I talk from experience as I am on Citalopram, I was warned by my doctr, the chemist and the information leaflet inside the packet that you tend to feel worse to commence with, and I did!! It gets better though - so if you feel it isnt in your case please go back to your GP! |

Actually it's NOT average to feel worse before you feel better once you have been started on an ante-depressant. However they do take up to 14 days to beginning having any real benefits.
However if you're feeling worse then i would suggest seeing your GP again because at 8 weeks on Citalopram you should be starting to feel better. remember that not all ante-depressants suit everyone. You have to have the right one and it could be that Citalapram is just not for you. That being said do not stop taking them unless advised by your GP as suddenly stopping them could make you feel even worse. So go back to your GP asap. Good luck and hope you obtain sorted out. Ignore any unpleasant comments from twats in here! x |

It does take various weeks for antidepressants to work and there are a lot to select from. Sometimes you have to try various before you find one that suits you. After 8 weeks it should be just about kicking in. Maybe the dose is too low or maybe you need some other therapy such as councilling. Go observe your GP again. Good luck

Celexa has a less average adverse reaction of depression and the life-threatening adverse reaction is suicide attempt. Before taking any medication, you have the right and the responsibility to be concious of ALL common, less average and life-threatening adverse reactions.
Report this to your prescriber on Monday. You may need a dosage adjustment or a dissimilar med. DO NOT stop the med without your doctor's conciousness and advice. |

i think the key to treating depression is not to rely solely on antidepressants for a cure. having some sort of other treatment in addition is so much better - counselling or whatever.
i was diagnosed with depression and generalised anxiety disorder about a year ago, and am still on citalopram, because thats the only treatment i was offered. i wish my doctor had referred me on for counselling or something because i feel it would really have helped me. of course, there are other medications you can try. chat to your doctor - they'll know better than people here. |

yes it's quite average for this to happen. very often the more average anti d's are used first off . u can always go back to ur doc and ask him/her to alteration ur prescription. it s just a case of trial and error but there's absolutely one out there that will suit u.

i took citalopram for a short space of time, made me loopy as a nut and sick.
a possible side effect of all anti depressants is depression, so maybe try changing the type of anti depressants |
