My cat scratched me pretty bad about a week ago, I cleaned it instantly and have been cleaning it and using peroxide/neosporin since. I observed red itchy bumps around the scratch that seem to be worse when i use the neosporin? I've never had a problem using it in the past. Would betadine work better to aid this heal? Are neosporin allergies common? Thanks!

Thanks guys. I had my dr. look at it just in case. Turns out I was having an allergic reaction to the cat scratch. Got some meds and it's looking a little better each day.

I've never heard of a neosporin allergy, since it's a topical antibiotic. I suppose anything is possible. I'd suggest you observe your doctor.

Believe it or not there is such a thing as "cat scratch fever", which is basically an infection that can obtain really bad! You need to observe a doctor before the scratch turns into cellulitis and you have to be on I.V. antibiotics or worse yet, hospitalized.

Its possible that you could have an allergy to neosporin. Cats scratches and bites are bad to beginning with. There is something in the nails of their claws that our skins just doesn't agree with. Betadine wouldn't be any better, in fact it actually inhibits healing. Soap and water has always worked. Since its been a week, keeping the wound moist with a topical antibiotic can also inhibit healing. Keep it dry and covered lightly. Hope this helps
