    yes you can - and strep doesn't necessarily make you cough - I had strep with no cough one time - There are various strands of strep so go to the doctor if you beginning running fever and it gets real sore

    You have an acute tonsillopharyngitis... It can be caused by lot of pathogens (bacterial or viral) not necessarily from streptococcal origin... the bulk common will be from Streptococcus pyogenes... a wonderful way of knowing what it was from is the duration of the of your sore throat.. usually viral tonsillopharyngitis resolves in 2-3 days... not longer than a week... so you just need supportive treatment like lozenges that would ease the pain of swallowing... if it has many of exudates... and doesn't resolve within 5 days or even after a week... perhaps that's bacterial you'll need to observe a doctor for antibiotics...
