I agree with the other two guys. Change the mattress and the pillows. If that doesn't work then you should go to a doctor.

first question is how old are you, if you're in the elderly category these may be attributed to degenerative diseases, which can influence bones and even muscles in the body.
other questions are: what are your activities the night or even the day before? what is your job?where do you sleep on- a mattress that may be too soft or too difficult may give you some back troubles as well. Position when you sleep may add to your pains. If pains persists for more than a week then maybe its time to observe your physician. hope this helps. |

It could be that you need a new mattress or that you've either got too a lot pillows or not enough. Get it checked out at your doctors though because it could be the first signs of an arthritic condition. If you find it takes longer for the pain to go in the morning or if the pain goes into your neck as well you definately need to obtain it checked.

Get a new mattress and a new base,it will take a month to feel comfortable in it .Don't go for cheap that's a false economy, you want something firm.

Could be you just need more or maybe less pillows. If the pillows make your head too high your shoulders, neck and back can really play up, likewise, if too few pillows make your head too low.
Hope you feel better soon honey. x |

I agree with the bulk others suggesting a alteration of pillow height and firmnness of mattress but in addition - it's better to curl into foetal position in the morning to stretch the spine and roll in sitting position rather than sitting straight up. Wrong pillow height can also give you pins and needles (personal experience). If remedial action does not aid then you should observe your GP and have an X-ray. Hope you sort it out.

Have you tried lying completely flat with no pillows as it sounds like a nerve is trapped behind your shoulder blades, using a pillow may stiffen the affected area and cause pain.
I would suggest seeing your doctor as you would perhaps benefit from a prescription to ease the soreness and possibly some physio. Do you have a stressful job or obtain very tense during the day if so try a hot bath or hot towel on the affected area before bed. Some gentle shoulder and neck exercises would aid to relax and eradicate the tension from the area. Take care Andy |
