You don't have to be pregnant to have heartburn and heartburn itsn't actually from your heart therefore it's not over your heart...it is in the middle. Try tums or malox. If it helps, then it was heartburn, if not, observe a doctor. Anyone at any age can have heartburn, even infants.

No it's not your heart, it's over acidity in your stomach. You could be consuming or drinking things that add to this. Also, stress can cause over production of acid in your stomach. Don't ignore it as you could do permanent damage. There are very wonderful over the counter remedies for this, like Zantac. For quick relief, I advocate club soda. But, you need to observe a doctor if the condition continues.

We call it heartburn, but it really has nothing to do with your heart. It usually acid reflux and it's the acid in your stomach rising up in your esophagus and over time this can burn and wear out the esophagus. It is just like you ingesting acid...it burns going down and burns coming up...
Sometimes you could look at what you just ate and know what is causing the acid reflux, but you need to contact your doctor and make certainly that it's not something more serious..things like stomach ulcers and hyatial herneas can be the cause... Also being pregnant has nothing to do with except, when the fetus is in the last month or so they obtain so almighty that they push up on the upper part of the torso and sometimes people obtain heartburn, but i have had three children and never had hearburn. |

The pain of "heartburn" is usually felt at ther centre just above the diaphragm. This is because the pain is caused by a reflux of stomach acid. I will explain this in relation to the disease called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), this is a condition in which acid from the stomach refluxes into the esophagus. An estimated 44% of adults in the United States report GERD symptoms at least once a month, with approximately 10% experiencing everyday symptoms.Transient relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is the primary mechanism responsible for the reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. The LES is a muscular ring at the lower end of the esophagus that opens to enable for the forward passage of food into the stomach and then tightens to prevent regurgitation of gastric contents back into the esophagus. A minute degree of reflux is physiologically normal; such episodes are typically brief and asymptomatic. In your case, however, I doubt that you have GERD, and it's probably just a 'one-off' that could be relieved by antacids bought over-the -counter. Should this prove not to be the case, you will be advised to confer your doctor.
I contribute a link containing details of GERD. http://www.medicinenet.com/ gastroesophageal_reflux_ disease_gerd/article.htm Hope this helps matador 89 |

it can be from a hietal hernia, I have it. It causes acid reflux and I have a prescription strength zantac. Don't eat a couple hours before going to bed and be careful of what you do eat.
I sleep with 2 pillows to keep my head up that helps at night. |

Since this only happens on occasion and not on a regular basis you perhaps do not have GERD. However, that is a wonderful explanation, and should be further explored by you. What you could do in the meantime is try to avoid hot, spicy foods that can cause indigestion. Do you recall consuming a certain type of food earlier today? Also, don't scarf down your food. Don't lay down 30-60 min. after eating. Where loose clothing (that's if you really do have GERD). Try taking TUMS or Pepcid AC to aid ease your heartburn once you have.
In the meantime just relax, and sip on some water. It WILL go away, and you WILL be okay... Here's some links on how to prevent and ease heartburn: http://ezinearticles.com/?Stop-Heartburn-Naturally&id=243651 http://www.stopheartburn.org.uk/ http://www.heartburndetails.com/ |

dumass.
"heartburn" is just another term for acid reflux. it means you have a fluttering or spasmic cardiac sphincter, and your burning your esophagus with hydrochloric acid (stomach acid). being pregnant or a virgin has NOTHING to do with it. america is so fuciking stupid. |
