Probably. Wu Long is, I believe, a brand of oolong. Oolong tea has been around forever. It is from the camelia tea plant, just like Lipton's. There is green tea, which is dried fresh tea leaves. There is black tea (like Lipton's) which is first fermented, then dried. Oolong is partially fermented and usually a sort of in-between olive color. It's good for you just like black & green.

However, Oprah had some people on her show talking about Wu Long tea and touting it as a excellent weight loss aid. Now it's all the rage and all over the internet. Here's one ad: http://www.infusium-tea.com/wu-long-products.php

Like all green/oolong/black teas, it contains some caffeine & polyphenols. One ad has a case history of someone losing weight with tea that was oolong and ephedra mixed (well, duh!) However, the same ad site (http://www.qflinc.com/wulong-tea1.html) promises that their tea is 100% "semi-fermented tea" that has been "cultivated for hundreds of years." They do not guarantee that you will lose weight drinking it.

I do believe that if one drinks a cup of tea when craving a cream filled doughnut, then forgoes the latter, one will at least maintain their current weight. :-) Good quality oolong is available at tea shops & health foods stores. Check out http://svtea.com - my personal favorite for excellent tea.

Wu long and Oolong are them.

They are both Romanizations (Latin alphabet spelling) of a Chinese word that sounds like "oolong."

The term (oolong/wulong) refers to the degree of oxidation during processing of the tea leaves.
