Emo is short for emotional. To me emo is depessing, you think everything is bad, nothing is wonderful in life. Emos, say there gunna kill themselves but never do. Emos are pathetic, but my best friend is emo but shes happy so i really dont know the defenition now but i just know they were lo of black and complain alot

The "emo" category is nothing more than a fashion and music trend some kids follow. Cutting has been related with hte word "emo" far too much. It might be associated in the sense that the "perfect emo" is depressed and suicidal. Cutting is one technique of dealing with those two feelings. But it has nothing to do with claiming to be emo anything. When speaking to students about the issue, don't encourage them being put into any categories.
Anyway, your students might either just be following the trend because often, when kids follow rebelious trends (emo, punk, goth, etc), they expect to recieve many of attention, which is true. This arrives from lack of parental guidence, so I suggest if you obtain the parents involved, but be certainly explain to them thaat this isn't anything to punish their kid for (incase they do) and that it's actually their own fault as they have permitted the kid to go unguided and do such a hazardous thing. Soem kids might genuinely feel deppressed and suicidal, not just cutting to be known as something. In these cases, I'd doubt they'd be talking about it in the open. Cutting is usually done with anything with a sharp ample blade, very often on the wrists and arms. This is at least the "trend" as you said. Usually, nothing abstracting excessive bleeding is used, and I don't know about pain killers. Doing this puts the person at risk of infecting themselves, due to the open veins. In rare cases, too much bleeding takes place, and one can go unconcious. Ideally, cutting resulted in direct death. I don't really know for certain, but I really don't think 'cutting, bleeding for a while, and then stopping it if it doesn't on its own' reliefs suicidal desires. I think a suicidal person would die within the first couple cuts. Now kids are collecting scars to express "the terrible things they've been through" but it's mainly to follow the trend and recieve attention. |
