My daughter started getting "flashing" in her right eye when she was 11, and then it went away for a couple years and now its back. She says its like a strobe light. Doctors were never able to find out what the problem was. Any ideas?

take her to a neurologist and have them do an eeg right away.

    could be seizure activity.

ask her about headaches, nausea etc.

contact a vision institute in your area.

Some people experience bright flashes of light, flickering lights, or streaks of light. This visual sensation the bulk commonly outcomes from shifting of the jellylike substance that fills the back of the eye (vitreous humor) or less commonly from a detached retina or a migraine headache. Before a migraine headache, some people temporarily observe jagged, zigzag-like, bright, shimmery lines. Flashes of light can also result from a blow to the back of the head ("seeing stars"), perhaps because of stimulation of the part of the brain where vision is interpreted. An eye examination should concentrate on an ophthalmoscopy. A detached retina or migraine headache is treated. Otherwise, treatment may be unnecessary.
