Had stye's many as a young man. Always used golden eye ointment, which cleared them up . Can you still obtain it? I am talking 60 yearsago.

do you wear contacts? it's necessary not to wear contacts when you have a stye, and follow all instructions, ointment and hot soaked towel on eye every 4 hours. i had one for one year but i wore contacts and didn't quite follow instructions at start (didn't know about no contacts). then it just went away by itself after awhile.

Gold. You may laugh but rubbing gold on to a sty really works, I obtain them quite often and it always works. You can buy a special gold ointment from the chemist or just clean a piece of gold jewellery (the higher the carat the better, and also preferable common gold not pink, yellow or white) and dab it occasionally on to the sty. It feels a bit odd but I assure you that it works.

As a pharmacist for 15 years I have seen a "stye on one's eye" a lot times. The best thing to do is obtain a wash cloth wet with very warm water and place it over your closed eye. Repeat this various times and ultimately it will clear up. I wouldn't recommend squeezing it, as this may be cool, it can cause undermine to your eye. Good luck.

Do not squeeze it! This will usually result in the stye bursting under the skin - at best, you'll end up with a puffy eyelid for a few days. At worst, the infection will quickly spread and the side of your face will swell up alarmingly, causing a trip to the doctor and a shot of antibiotics in your butt. Trust me on this one - I unfortunately have personal experience in this area.
I'm susceptible to getting styes myself (usually once or twice a year). Using a warm, moist compress (as hot as you could stand) every couple hours will aid to bring it to a head. Soak a washcloth in water and microwave it for 30 seconds. Test the temperature against your wrist - if it's not unbearably hot, apply it to your eye with gentle pressure until it cools down. You can repeat this way as often as you're able to. Sometimes, smearing a tiny bit of vaseline on the stye will also aid accelerate things. Once the stye has a visible head, you could (very gently and carefully) press your fingertip to the area of your eyelid just below (if on the lower lid) or just above (if on the upper lid) the stye, causing it to pop. It can take anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks of warm compresses for a head to form, depending on how deep the stye is. After it pops, it usually clears up in a day or two. As someone else mentioned, do not wear contact lenses until various days after the stye is completely gone - you'll just end up making it worse and possibly re-infecting the area. Good luck - I know how painful these things can be. |
