I've been dieting and counting my calories. And some soups have very few calories but many of sodium, and people are always saying too much sodium is bad for you. So I was wondering why it's bad?? What does it do?

ANything is bad for you in excess. I personally have no colon and have to take in extra salt, so it's necessary to have some sodium in your diet apparently or they wouldn't have told me to either take this nasty powder for life or eat more salt.

Sodium is the part of salt that enhances blood pressure. There is more sodium in salt than any other food that we eat. We eat salt because it makes food taste better. It increases the flavor of almost everything we eat. Yet consuming too much salt is dangerous.
The body requirements sodium to hold water in the blood vessels. Sodium also regulates water balance in all parts of the body. If too much water is held in the body, the amount of blood increases. If it enhances too much, troubles will arise. The increase in blood makes the heart work harder. The result can be high blood pressure. Other conditions, such as diabetes, can cause high blood pressure. The the bulk common cause is consuming too much salt/sodium. When high blood pressure is not controlled, it can lead to a heart attack, stroke or kidney disease. |
