I received a bite from an unknown source in my sleep saturday night. Today my finger has become rather swollen and a bit white. If you look closely you could see almost redish brown spots. I haven't gotten around to copunting them but I'm certainly there's at least 40. It has the pain equal to a light bruise when I put pressure on it. I survive in northern utah. Based on this information, can anybody tell me the specifics on the bite?

GO TO DOCTOR ASAP.
Spider bites usually only leave 1 or 2 red marks, and there is a white circle surrounding a spider bite. If there's 40 little spots, the bugger may have laid eggs. Or you can be allergic to spiders. Good luck! The doctor should be able to give you antibiotics, but it should be treated immediately. |

First things first... Spiders DO NOT lay eggs in humans and rarely use anything they have to bite as a "creche" for their young. That is a in favor urban legend that has no basis in fact.
That said, I have the same advice as the other responders (without the alarmist, horror film aspect). It sounds as though you're having a bad reaction to the venom of the spider (or whatever it was that bit you) and that you need to observe your family doctor. I wouldn't delay at all, as the effectiveness of the treatments and the severity of the problem are usually very time sensitive. |

could be from a brown recluse.
if that's the case then you should really seek medical recognition before your hand is amputated. the venom is a mesotoxin meaning that it's detiriorating the tissues in your hand. i've seen some pretty nasty bites from this spider. faliure to act has resulted in wholes in peoples chest |

SPIDERS DO NOT LAY THEIR EGGS IN PEOPLE!!!! People shouldn't answer questions that have no idea what they are talking about because it could cause a panic in the person asking the question.
If it was a black widow, you would have known already because they cause severe abdominal and back cramps. It could have been a brown recluse (Fiddle Back). They cause tissue destruction. I have seen holes the size of silver dollars in people and the go quite deep. I'd watch this bite and if it starts to develop into a sore go to a doctor. You may need to be sent to a wound clinic. There is no magical treatment to stop this if it's happening, but proper wound care can lessen the damage. I'd be putting antibiotic on the bite area, and maybe soaking it in water with epsom salts (as warm as you could tolerate) in case you have just an infection starting in there. Good Luck!!!! |
