He is your ED Counsellor, so you better ask him what he wants you to write to him!

Some people feel they have an intimate association with their consuming disorder which helps them have control. Just say how it's effecting your life. Do you want it to stop and go away? Is it taking all your energy away? Is it stopping you from having a social life? How does it effect you? Is it a comfort to you? How does it comfort you? Some people observe their consuming disorder as a friend so just write to it saying how it's or isn't helping.

your counsellor has asked you to do this to aid you, so unlike some of the other answers with excpetion to one, this is a really helpful technique of you being able to observe what your Eating Disorder is doing to you.Quite often in these circumstances the client being you has never actually or openly been honest with themselves and cannot always vocalise their ideas or feelings, when writing it, for some, it can be an easier technique of dealing with the situation.

    Hope this clarifies.

ugh, counsellors and their stupid ways of management. Hate to say this, but you're better off seeing a psychotherapist, especially someone who specialises in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Sometimes reading stuff like this, about being asked to write a letter to your disorder makes me cringe! Your counsellor should have outlined what he/she requires of you by asking you to write (such a pointless task) in the first place. I'd ditch him/her if I were you and obtain on to your GP for a psychotherapy referral.

I think neitherhereorthere is right. Give the letter to your ED a try and be very honest in putting down everything this consuming disorder is doing to your life. I often wrote letters to people who disturbed me or hurt me very few I gave the people concerned but it helped me obtain things in to prospective . Hope this exercise helps you and helps your counsellor to gain insight in to how your consuming disorder affects you so you could overcome it and obtain well .
